Sonoma Summer Sandwich
Before our naps in the summer at her house on F Street, Nona Zurlo would slice a fresh tomato and sprinkle it with salt. We would sit with her on the back steps, eating the tomato and chatting companionably. (She always asked us our opinions about things and we were always surprised to find we had them.) If you feel you must do a little more with tomatoes, here is a way.

1 teaspoon unsalted butter
Beefsteak tomato
4 fresh basil leaves
Thin slices of good bread
  • Butter 2 bread slices.
  • Cover with tomato slices.
  • Sprinkle chopped basil.
  • Add salt and Pepper.

Enjoy with our 2005 Sauvignon Blanc.
