Picnic Planning Check
List
Menu and food
Get a head count so you can have enough of everything such as chairs, dishes and glasses
on hand.
Write down the menu. Check what you have on hand and what you might need to buy.
If children will be in attendance, make sure you have plenty of things for them.
Do as much the day before as you can, so on the actual day you just have to pick up the baskets
and get in the car. For a spur of the moment picnic, If you have some bread and wine, you can stop along the way and pick up some cheese and fruit.
Checklst:
- Knives
- Plates (I bring real china plates, I don't find paper or plastic very festive.)
- Utensils
- Glasses (I buy wine glasses at thrift stores so I have a good supply and don't worry about breakage.)
- Napkins ( I bring cloth ones. My daughter Teri made a wonderful set of place mats
with holders for the napkin and knife, fork and spoon that I have used hundreds of times. They
roll up and are convenient to tuck into the basket.
- Cutting board
- Hand towelettes
- Chairs to sit on (We have directors chairs I use frequently. Sometimes if
I want to do something quickly I use camp stools which I had painted and covered. They
are handy and can be tucked away into the most crowded car.
- I use the camp stools for sitting and also for laying out food and wine.
- Platters to lay out the food
- Tablecloth (if needed)
- Ground cover such as a rug if you plan to sit on the ground. (Some big fluffy pillows
would not be a bad idea either if you have them.)
- Can opener
- Bottle opener
- Wine opener
- Camera
- Insect repellent (citronella is probably the best)
- Matches
- Paper towels
- Garbage bag
- Sunscreen
- Hats
- Sunglasses
