Summer Living
Too much of a good thing can be wonderful" Mae West once quipped.
So it is
with the many fresh fruits and vegetables we grow here in Sonoma County.
Generally, we think the best way to serve them is fresh, simply dressed and with
as little fuss as possible.
But when you get to the point with your family during the season when they start
saying,
"Are we having zucchini again?" (or tomatoes, or whatever) then you
have to add a little variety. Of course, your guests will also be
grateful for some different ideas, too.
Try the
Zucchini Crema in the Crinella cookbook. Or you can stuff them
In the Italian way. You can also lightly steam zucchini and serve it as a
Salad.
Here is another easy recipe which I like,
Zucchini Fritters which we used
to have at Fiori's Restaurant, one of the most famous places in Sonoma County and
well known for these fritters made by Edna Fiori.
Now is the time you will also want to start making
brandied fruit to use this winter. Fresh strawberries, peaches, pears, and other fruits are
Cured in brandy, to be used as dessert topping when winter comes.
Follow the recipe in our cookbook and you will be very glad this
Winter.
I will be leaving in a few weeks for a fishing trip to Alaska and I am hoping to
Bring back some wonderful recipes to share with you.
Have a great summer!
